According to the command, the suspect allegedly dressed in the stolen camouflage uniform in an attempt to pass himself off as a legitimate officer.
In a video circulating on X, Ojo claimed that he found the police uniform, which reportedly bore the name tag of Inspector Jimoh Weheed, along Maryland Road in Lagos.
The command said residents became suspicious after observing that the suspect’s conduct and appearance did not correspond with that of a genuine police officer. Their suspicions prompted them to question him, leading to the discovery that he was allegedly impersonating a police operative.
He was subsequently apprehended by members of the public and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command commended residents for their vigilance and civic responsibility in exposing the suspect but strongly condemned all forms of jungle justice.

It cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that Lagos State laws do not permit extrajudicial punishment. The police urged members of the public to always hand over suspects to law enforcement agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.
The command further appealed to residents to remain security-conscious and continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious persons, movements and activities while allowing due process to take its course.
