A tragic accident has claimed the life of a dispatch rider along the busy Cele Bridge axis of the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident, confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, involved a fully loaded HOWO diesel tanker that collided with the motorcycle while both were in motion.

According to officials, the impact was severe, leaving the rider trapped beneath the tanker. Sadly, he died at the scene before help could arrive.
LASTMA personnel quickly moved in to manage the situation. They cordoned off the area with safety cones and warning tapes to prevent further accidents and control traffic along the ever-busy route.
The tanker was later impounded, but its driver reportedly fled immediately after the crash.
Police officers from the Ijesha Division arrived shortly after to take over the scene, begin investigations, and ensure order. The victim’s body was eventually recovered from beneath the vehicle and taken to a morgue in Yaba.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the accident as heartbreaking and extended condolences to the victim’s family.
He also called for a thorough investigation to determine what led to the crash and to ensure accountability.
The incident adds to growing concerns about road safety on major Lagos highways, especially involving heavy-duty vehicles.
