She later starred in films such as The Girl On A Motorcycle (1968) and became a cultural icon of the 1960s.

She was also known for her high-profile relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, inspiring classics like Wild Horses and You Can’t Always Get What You Want.

After struggling with heroin addiction in the 1970s, Faithfull made a remarkable comeback with her 1979 album Broken English, which cemented her reputation as a groundbreaking artist.

Paying tribute, Jagger described Faithfull as “a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer, and a great actress,” saying he was “so saddened” by her passing.

His bandmate Keith Richards echoed the sentiment, expressing that he was “so sad” and would “miss her dearly.” Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood also honoured her memory, sharing photos of their time together and writing, “Marianne will be dearly missed. Bless her.”

A statement from Faithfull’s spokesperson confirmed that she “passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family.”
