EKO HOT BLOG reports that the scale of the investment raised expectations of silverware at Anfield. However, those hopes ended after a quarter final exit in the UEFA Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool lost the second leg 2-0 at home on April 14, crashing out 4-0 on aggregate and ending their final chance of winning a trophy this season.
The club’s spending was led by the €144 million signing of striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. Midfielder Florian Wirtz joined from Bayer Leverkusen for €125 million, while forward Hugo Ekitike arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt for €95 million.
Other additions included defender Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth, wing back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, centre back Giovanni Leoni from Parma Calcio 1913, goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia, and Freddie Woodman on a free transfer from Preston North End.
Despite the heavy investment, Liverpool’s domestic campaigns also fell short. The club were eliminated from the League Cup after a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the round of 16. Their FA Cup run ended with a 4-0 loss to Manchester City in the quarter finals, while their Premier League title challenge faded early as the gap at the top widened.

The Champions League had been their final hope, but PSG’s dominant 4-0 aggregate victory brought the campaign to a disappointing close.
