According to sources, the couple engaged in a heated argument that escalated into physical violence. A family member, who requested anonymity, revealed that 27-year-old Fatima was beaten during the altercation.
“A neighbour called to inform us that Fatima had been hospitalised. Initially, we had no idea it was due to domestic violence until someone we sent to check on her confirmed she had been attacked by her boyfriend. We realised how serious it was when we received pictures showing damage to her teeth,” the source said.
Following the incident, one of her cousins reported the case at Denton Police Station, where the suspect was arrested. However, the family later found out that he had been released.
A resident named Adetunji disclosed that Fatima, originally from Kwara State, had suffered repeated abuse in the relationship.
“This isn’t the first time. What made this one stand out was the damage to her teeth, which prompted her parents to take action. We’ve intervened several times before, but she kept returning to him. After his arrest, Fatima was the one who pleaded for his release, despite her condition,” he explained.
Another individual familiar with the situation confirmed that Fatima is currently undergoing treatment.

She has been fitted with a temporary dental appliance pending a surgical procedure scheduled for August 15.
Efforts to contact the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful, as phone calls were unanswered and a message sent to him had not received a response as of the time of reporting.
