Manchester United secured their place in the Europa League last 16 with a 2-0 victory over Romanian side FCSB, while Tottenham relied on their young talents to advance via a top-eight finish.

Meanwhile, under-pressure Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou found relief as Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi, and Mikey Moore netted their first senior goals in a 3-0 win over Swedish side Elfsborg in north London.

United, now unbeaten in eight Europa League games, finished third, while Tottenham secured fourth place—both avoiding the play-off round. The top eight teams progress directly to the last 16, where they will be seeded against the winners of the knockout play-off ties featuring teams ranked ninth to 24th.

United manager Ruben Amorim had emphasized the importance of winning against FCSB to bypass the play-offs and gain extra rest for his squad. His team responded, continuing their strong form with just one defeat in their last seven matches across all competitions.

Despite a sluggish first half, Amorim introduced Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho at the break, sparking immediate improvement. Garnacho nearly made an instant impact, hitting the post, while Bruno Fernandes rattled the crossbar with a long-range effort.

United’s breakthrough came in the 60th minute when Diallo delivered a dangerous low cross into the box, allowing Dalot to calmly slot home.

FCSB nearly responded through Daniel Birligea, whose powerful strike bounced off the bar and came close to crossing the line. However, Mainoo sealed the win in the 68th minute with a composed finish from Garnacho’s cutback, ensuring United’s smooth passage to the last 16.
