Martin Bakole Eyes Anthony Joshua Fight as Saudi Chief Talks Africa Venue

Martin Bakole is edging closer to a massive showdown with Anthony Joshua after spending years on the outskirts of the heavyweight division.

Following his first career defeat to Michael Hunter in 2018, many in the boxing world wrote off the Congolese puncher. Despite that setback, Bakole has continued to make a name for himself, frequently discussing his intense sparring sessions, which have helped raise his profile—but not necessarily secured him the big fights he’s been chasing.

However, things may soon take a turn as Turki Alalshikh, the head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, recently expressed interest in staging a blockbuster fight between Bakole and Joshua in Africa.

“We are open to seeing Joshua face Bakole,” Alalshikh told talkSPORT on Thursday. “I want to see this fight happen, and I know where I want to see it— in Africa.”

Bakole has long been vocal about wanting a fight with AJ, and he would eagerly embrace the chance to face the Watford powerhouse in the ring.

“They keep avoiding me and I’m so happy, and I’d like to thank his His Excellency Turki Alalshikh because he said himself he wants to see this fight [with Anthony Joshua],” Bakole told talkSPORT one day after Alalshikh’s interview.

“People keep avoiding me, the promoters and the boxers.

“But now we have someone giving the fans the good fight they want.

“If you see my video where I called Anthony Joshua out you will see that all the African people were calling for it to happen in Africa.

“Why not Africa? Everyone can’t wait to see me face Anthony Joshua, especially in my country.”

Before Martin Bakole can face Anthony Joshua, he must first overcome Efe Ajagba.

The powerful Nigerian was mandated to fight Bakole in an IBF final eliminator to determine the mandatory challenger, after Agit Kabayel and Bakole himself declined the opportunity.

IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois will defend his title against Joseph Parker on February 22 in Saudi Arabia.

The winner of that bout will face the victor of Bakole vs. Ajagba in the near future.
