In Sinners, Jordan played dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, a performance that earned strong praise from both audiences and critics.

The film had a successful night at the ceremony, collecting four awards overall. Although it did not win the Best Picture category, which went to One Battle After Another, the project still marked a significant achievement for its director Ryan Coogler, who also won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the same film.
Jordan and Coogler have built a strong creative partnership over the years, working together on several successful projects.
During his acceptance speech, Jordan expressed gratitude to the director, describing him as both a collaborator and a close friend. He said Coogler gave him the opportunity to grow as an actor and bring his vision to life.

The audience gave Jordan a standing ovation as he walked on stage to accept the award. He began by thanking his parents, mentioning that his father had travelled from Ghana to attend the ceremony.
Jordan also expressed appreciation to Warner Bros. executives Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy for supporting the film and believing in Coogler’s vision and original storytelling.
In the Best Actor category, Jordan was nominated alongside Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.

Sinners, an action thriller set in the 1930s during the Jim Crow era in Mississippi, tells the story of two brothers caught in a supernatural conflict involving vampires.
While one brother fights to stop the threat, the other is transformed into one of the creatures.
Jordan’s journey in the entertainment industry began with television roles, including his appearance in the acclaimed HBO series The Wire. He later gained wider recognition through the drama Friday Night Lights.

His breakthrough film role came in Fruitvale Station, which was also directed by Coogler. The actor later achieved global fame through Marvel’s Black Panther and its sequel Wakanda Forever, as well as the successful Creed film series.
Reflecting on his achievement, Jordan acknowledged the influence of earlier generations of Black actors such as Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, Sidney Poitier and Halle Berry.
He said their contributions paved the way for his success and expressed gratitude to fans and supporters who have followed his career over the years.
