A Nigerian mother has ignited online controversy after her son revealed that she invested his N800,000 and donated nearly all of their household food items to a church project, leaving only salt.

The story gained traction through a viral post shared by the son on X (formerly Twitter).

In his account, the young man explained that his older brother initially gave him N1 million to start a point-of-sale (POS) business, with the expectation that he would return the investment before his brother’s final year at university.

Subsequently, the younger brother entrusted N800,000 to his mother to initiate a poultry business, believing it would be a prudent family investment.

However, he later discovered that his mother had used the entire sum to support a new church project in their village, where she had been appointed to a leadership position.

To his shock, she reportedly donated all the family’s food supplies as an additional “seed” offering, retaining only salt.

Sharing his experience, he wrote, “My elder brother gave me N1 million to invest in a POS business. I trusted my mom with N800,000 to start a poultry business. But when my brother asked for his money, I only had N200,000 left. I then learned from my uncle that my mom and her pastor had invested the N800,000 in building a church branch in our village without informing me.

He also mentioned that he discovered his mother had donated all the food he had recently purchased, adding, “I’m considering moving out, but I’m only 20 and unsure about living alone.”

This revelation has sparked widespread debate online, with many questioning the ethics of using family resources for religious contributions without consent.

The son’s story has prompted discussions about family finances, faith, and personal boundaries, with numerous users offering advice and sympathy as he navigates this unexpected situation.
