- NIS says technical issues affecting its Contactless Passport App have been resolved
- The Service urged eligible applicants to use the self-enrolment platform for passport renewals
- It also clarified that customer service at the Nigerian High Commission in London is managed by the mission, not the NIS
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has assured Nigerians that the technical problems that previously affected its Contactless Passport Application platform have been resolved, describing the digital service as a major step forward in passport processing for citizens living abroad.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the clarification comes amid continued complaints from Nigerians in the United Kingdom over delays in passport renewals and poor communication at the Nigerian High Commission in London.

In a statement issued on Saturday, NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, said the NIS Mobile application, introduced in the UK in 2024, has undergone several upgrades following feedback from users, making the platform more efficient and reliable.
According to him, the digital platform has significantly reduced the difficulties applicants previously faced in securing appointments for biometric enrolment.

He explained that the application, which is available through the Google Play Store, Apple App Store and the NIS website, has been improved to eliminate the glitches experienced during its early stages.
Akinlabi urged passport applicants to rely on the Service’s official communication channels for accurate information on application procedures, updates and new features added to the platform.
He further stated that applicants who had earlier been assigned distant biometric appointment dates could switch to the contactless application process and complete their biometric enrolment independently, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
However, he clarified that the self-service option is only available to applicants renewing passports that have expired or will expire within the next 12 months.

He added that first-time passport applications, requests to replace lost passports and applications involving changes to personal details cannot be processed through the mobile platform.
The Immigration Service also noted that applicants under the age of 18 are not eligible to use the contactless passport renewal system.
Addressing concerns over unanswered phone calls and emails at the Nigerian High Commission in London, Akinlabi explained that the Immigration Service does not manage the mission’s front-office operations.
He said responsibility for customer service at the mission rests with the High Commission, although the NIS continues to work closely with its officials to improve immigration-related services and address concerns raised by Nigerians living abroad.
