EKO HOT BLOG reports that the decision was taken at the National Executive Council meeting held in Lagos and was contained in a communiqué signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero and Acting General Secretary Benson Upah. The NEC expressed strong concern over the abduction of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the killing of a staff member during the incident, describing the reported withdrawal of security personnel from the school before the attack as gross negligence.
“The surge in attacks on schools is alarming. The Federal Government must act urgently to secure all educational institutions, especially those in vulnerable and remote areas,” the statement read.
The Congress said it will mobilise all affiliates and state councils for the protest, which it described as peaceful but firm in its demands. It also called for an immediate investigation into the Kebbi abduction and prosecution of those responsible for the security lapses.
The NEC warned that failure by the Federal Government to address insecurity and other pressing issues could trigger widespread industrial actions across critical sectors such as health and education. It emphasized that workers’ safety and welfare remain a priority, noting that continued neglect could threaten national stability.
Discussions at the meeting also covered other national concerns, including the ongoing strike by the Joint Health Sector Unions, challenges facing tertiary education, and the revival of the Labour Civil Society Coalition. The NEC further raised concerns about the current state of the Labour Party and called for a realignment with working-class values.

The NLC urged Nigerians to support its push for a safer nation and called on state governments and security agencies to strengthen protection for schools and vulnerable communities.
