The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a viral video alleging the presence of bandits operating within forests in the state, describing the footage as false, misleading and recycled.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the video, which circulated widely on social media, showed armed men in a forest setting, with a voice-over claiming it captured a kidnappers’ hideout in Ogun State and warning residents to be cautious.

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, clarified in a statement on Sunday that the footage did not originate from Ogun State or anywhere in Nigeria.
According to the command, preliminary investigations revealed that the video was recorded in Kenya during an operation against cattle rustlers and was captured using a drone operated by the General Service Unit.
The police further stated that the footage was first uploaded online in 2022 and has since been recirculated with a false narrative aimed at creating panic among the public.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the spread of the video, warning that the circulation of unverified information could undermine public trust in security agencies and trigger unnecessary fear.
He also dismissed claims of criminal hideouts in Ogun forests, stating that there is no intelligence or operational report indicating the presence of bandits or similar threats in any part of the state.
Ojajuni reassured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining security through intelligence-led policing, strategic deployment of personnel and sustained operational vigilance.
The police urged members of the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of inciting panic or disrupting public peace.

The command further warned that the deliberate spread of false information would not be tolerated and could attract legal consequences.
