According to the military, the proceedings will be guided by existing legal frameworks within the military justice system.
“Proceedings of the court will be conducted with the highest standards of fairness, impartiality and strict adherence to due process guaranteeing that justice will be served without fear or favour,” Uba said.
“All cases will be addressed within extant legal frameworks of the military justice system,” he added.
The trial, which began behind closed doors at the Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, saw the 36 defendants brought in under tight security, with journalists barred from the proceedings.

The military said the inauguration of the court martial represents a significant step in reinforcing discipline, accountability and its commitment to protecting national integrity.
It recalled that in October 2025, several officers were arrested over alleged acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations following reports of a failed coup attempt.
The Defence Headquarters maintained that it remains committed to upholding professionalism and the rule of law, while ensuring that the rights of all personnel are respected throughout the trial.
