The Federal Government has dismissed claims that Nigeria’s security system has collapsed following recent attacks in Borno State, insisting that security agencies remain active and responsive across the country.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known during an interview with the BBC, where he addressed concerns over the recent incident in Maiduguri and the broader state of national security.

According to him, while challenges persist, it would be inaccurate to describe the situation as a total failure.
“I don’t think they failed. I think that more work needs to be done. Nigerian security agencies are working around the clock to ensure that this does not happen again,” he said.
He noted that despite recent incidents, Maiduguri has witnessed notable improvements in peace and stability over time, adding that the government is intensifying efforts to sustain those gains.
“The government is putting a lot of attention. The reform agenda of the president is aimed at ensuring that Nigerians are safe and that this does not happen again,” he added.
Speaking further, Idris highlighted Nigeria’s role on the global stage, particularly in the energy sector, noting that the country remains committed to contributing to global stability amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
“Nigeria is ever ready to contribute to energy security around the world. Whatever Nigeria can do to ease tension, it will do. The world needs oil, and Nigeria is there,” he stated.
He also linked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent international engagements to efforts aimed at strengthening diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties, especially with the United Kingdom.

According to the minister, ongoing reforms under the current administration are already improving Nigeria’s global image and economic outlook.
“With the reforms that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instituted, we have seen a significant uplift in the economy. The invitation extended to the President reflects how positively these reforms are being viewed globally,” he said.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to strengthening security operations, sustaining reforms, and ensuring that Nigerians can live and work in a safe and stable environment.
