Access to clean and reliable water remains a fundamental necessity for human survival and daily living.
In many communities within Eredo Local Council Development Area of Epe, this basic need had for years become a persistent challenge, largely due to erratic power supply and the rising cost of fuel required to operate water systems.

For residents, the struggle for water was not just inconvenient, it was exhausting, time-consuming, and, in many cases, financially draining.
Today, that reality is gradually fading.
In a decisive intervention aimed at addressing this long-standing issue, the Executive Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Monsuru Akinloye, has facilitated the installation of solar-powered boreholes across several communities in the council area, providing a sustainable and reliable source of clean water.
The initiative has covered multiple wards, including Odomola, Iraye, Ibonwon, Odo-Egiri, Kulanla, Ilara, Odo, Iragunshi, Poka, Noforija, Imokun, Igbooye, Odogbonle, among others, bringing relief to thousands of households.
Unlike conventional boreholes that depend on electricity or fuel, the solar-powered systems operate independently, ensuring uninterrupted water supply even in the face of power outages and fluctuating fuel prices.
This innovation has not only reduced the burden on residents but has also introduced a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution to water access.
For many families, especially women and children who often bear the responsibility of sourcing water, the impact has been profound.
Time once spent trekking long distances in search of water can now be redirected toward more productive activities, including education, business, and household development.
In Tony Ukah Street area of Iraye, residents recounted the severity of the hardship they endured before the intervention. Water scarcity, they said, was a daily struggle that affected every aspect of life.
“We used to suffer seriously before now. Getting water was a major challenge, especially when there was no electricity and fuel was expensive,” a resident explained.
Another resident highlighted the communal benefit of the project, noting that its impact extends beyond immediate beneficiaries.
“This solar borehole is serving not just our street but also neighboring streets. People come from different areas to fetch water here, and it has really reduced stress for everyone,” the resident said.
Community leaders and stakeholders have also commended the initiative, describing it as a practical response to one of the most pressing needs of the people.
They noted that access to clean water plays a critical role in improving public health, preventing waterborne diseases, and enhancing overall well-being.
In a bid to consolidate these gains and ensure that more communities benefit, Hon. Akinloye has approved an additional phase of the solar water project to be delivered across the LCDA.

The expansion is expected to further bridge the gap in water access and ensure equitable distribution across all wards.
This forward-looking approach reflects a broader commitment to grassroots development, sustainability, and inclusive governance.
By prioritizing basic infrastructure that directly impacts daily life, the administration continues to demonstrate responsiveness to the needs of the people.
Observers note that the initiative aligns with global efforts to promote renewable energy solutions and improve access to clean water in underserved communities, positioning Eredo LCDA as a model for local governance-driven development.
As the rollout continues and more installations are completed, residents across the LCDA remain hopeful and optimistic. What was once a daily struggle is steadily becoming a story of relief, progress, and improved quality of life.
With sustained commitment and continuous expansion, the dream of accessible, clean water for every household in Eredo LCDA is fast becoming a reality rather than a distant aspiration.
