- OAU Student Demands Apology, N15m Damages Over False Rape Allegation
- Adeife admitted that she falsely accused Adefesobi in the heat of the moment
- Adeife was given 14 days from receipt of the letter to comply with the demands
A student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ojuko Adefesobi, has demanded a written apology, full retraction and N15 million in damages from fellow undergraduate Adewale Adeola Adeife over what he described as a false rape allegation, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Adeife, a student in the Department of English Language and Literature at the Ile-Ife-based institution, had publicly apologised after previously accusing Adefesobi, known on X as David, of rape.

The controversy followed a viral video in which Adefesobi denied the allegation, stating that the accusation arose after he shared his opinion on WhatsApp regarding the trending Mirabel case. He claimed the disagreement escalated into online attacks, with Adeife allegedly labelling him a rapist and circulating his details in group chats.
In a video posted online, Adeife admitted that she falsely accused Adefesobi in the heat of the moment.
“Good afternoon, everyone. I’m making this video to apologise to David in regards to the post I made yesterday, calling him a rapist, and accusing him of being a rapist because of his post. It was the heat of the moment. I let my emotions take over me, and I accused him. So this is me apologising and clearing the air that he is not a rapist.
“He is never a rapist. I’ve never caught him raping anybody. So, I am sorry, David, I’m sorry for calling you a rapist, and this is just to clear the air. He is not a rapist. David is not a rapist,” she said.
Despite the apology, Adefesobi, through his solicitors, Anekwe & Associates, has issued further demands. In a letter signed by Kingsley Anekwe, the firm requested a written apology and full retraction to be published prominently across all platforms where the allegation was circulated, including social media.
The firm also demanded the immediate removal of all defamatory content and related materials from platforms under Adeife’s control, alongside a written undertaking to cease and desist from making any further defamatory statements.

Adeife was given 14 days from receipt of the letter to comply with the demands.
According to the law firm, Adefesobi informed them that on or about February 17, 2026, Adeife falsely accused him of rape and published his phone number alongside the allegation on social media platforms, including WhatsApp.
The firm described the accusation as malicious, reckless and without factual foundation, stressing that rape is a grave criminal allegation capable of exposing an individual to public hatred, ridicule and contempt.
It stated that following the publication, several individuals contacted Adefesobi privately, referring to him as a rapist. The firm further claimed that he lost business contracts and commercial opportunities as a direct consequence of the allegation and had been subjected to sustained online harassment, threats and emotional distress.
It added that although an apology was issued via video, the damage to Adefesobi’s reputation remained substantial and ongoing, noting that an apology does not automatically extinguish liability for defamation.
The firm indicated that its client reserves the right to petition relevant law enforcement and regulatory authorities if necessary.
