When the alarm went off in the Dosunmu household on December 12, 2025, it announced a wake-up call, not a death summons. Rays of sun slipped through the curtains, announcing a morning, not a mourning. Bath water swished in the bathroom with vigor; breakfast simmered in the kitchen with vitality. No one imagined that a trip to the morgue was imminent.
Later that day, Erelu Titilola Dosunmu and her husband stepped into the Ikeja Country Club, a place that had long held their laughter and provided a welcome respite for unwinding. The walls felt like a second home, and ordering dinner was a comfortable routine.

Alas! Their day took a tragic turn when Erelu’s first bite stalled in her throat. Choking and coughing sounds raised people’s eyebrows, and medical personnel moved swiftly, but as though the evening decided to pause mid-sentence, Erelu Dosunmu’s breath hung up, never to resume.
Just moments before, she appeared healthy with no hint of distress, no sign of illness. Within minutes, she was gone, leaving us suspended between mourning and wondering, grieving and questioning. Her sudden death pierced our hearts like an arrow; it wounds us not only with grief but with uneasy questions.
Her husband and eyewitnesses have found themselves replaying the sequence of events leading to the death. And even among the rest of us, the questions linger, some spoken aloud, others left to sit silently in the chambers of our hearts. Was it the food? Was there an undetected allergic reaction? Could it have been contamination? Could there have been an underlying medical condition that Erelu herself was not aware of?

The body sometimes hides its secrets quite well. Or could it be that Erelu’s flame was blown out by a human hand? Saying “It just happened” feels too small to hold the weight of this loss. We chase answers, but they elude us too quickly.
Yet, specific facts quieten our imaginations: Erelu was not eating alone. She shared the same table, the same evening, the same reputable space with her husband, just before the sudden passing.
Ikeja Country Club was a familiar ground, a place of routine, trust, and repeated return.
So, we choose to step back from suspicions in reverence for the memory of the dead and in respect for the dignity of the living.
Erelu Titilope Dosunmu’s body will find closure beneath the earth, but our questions may never find closure in answers.
Her husband and loved ones now smile behind heavy veils of sorrow.

The Dosunmu residence has become a gathering place of prayers, whispered consolations, and long embraces since her demise. Even the walls are learning the deafening sound of Erelu’s eternal silence.
Erelu Titilola Dosunmu will be laid to rest in Lagos on Friday, January 16th, the city that knew her footsteps and has benefited from her kindness. Her body will rest under the ground that once gripped her feet, a ground where her story lived. Her footsteps had crossed several borders, and her presence had made an impact in many places. Yet the circle of her life’s journey is closing in Lagos, a city that knew her beginnings.
Erelu Titilola Dosuunmu has been described by all and Sundry as a woman with a heart of gold who radiated warmth, compassion, and strength. She was a leader and a dedicated member of Eko Club International, making significant contributions to the organization’s impact.

Certainly, Erelu Dosunu will no longer participate in any Eko Club International meetings, quarterly meetings, or biennial conventions.
Erelu Dosumu will no longer lend her voice to the esteemed Women’s Forum, which she has been an integral part of, contributing to the success of the women’s group. What a life of vanity. We are only left with the memories we shared during her lifetime.
May Allah grant her family the strength to breathe through this loss and lead Erelu Titilola Dosunmu into a rest untouched by pain or time.
Rest gently, cherished wife, mother, sister, and friend!
