According to the residents, the mining activities, which involve heavy blasting of rocks, have led to the structural failure of several residential buildings and have created an atmosphere of fear and instability within the community.
The protest focused largely on the operations of a Chinese mining company, which residents allege has shown little regard for the safety and well-being of the local population.
Speaking on behalf of the community, local leaders explained that the vibrations from the frequent blasting have caused deep cracks in walls and foundations of houses, some of which are now on the verge of collapse.
They argued that the proximity of the mining site to residential areas is a direct violation of environmental safety standards and that the company failed to conduct a proper Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or engage the community in a transparent manner before commencing operations.
In addition to the physical damage to property, the residents highlighted significant health concerns arising from the constant release of dust and particulate matter into the air.
Many families reported an increase in respiratory issues, particularly among children and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to the poor air quality.
The noise pollution from the heavy machinery and the explosive blasts was also cited as a major source of distress, disrupting the peace of the neighborhood and affecting the mental health of the inhabitants.
“We can no longer sleep in our own homes, and our children are constantly coughing because of the dust,” one resident lamented during the demonstration.
The community is now calling on Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Minister of Solid Minerals Development to intervene immediately by suspending the mining license of the firm until a thorough investigation is conducted.
They are demanding a comprehensive audit of the company’s environmental practices and a compensation plan for those whose properties have been damaged.
The protesters emphasized that while they support industrial growth in Ogun State, such development must not come at the expense of human lives and the safety of established communities.

They urged the state government to uphold its “Building Our Future Together” mantra by protecting the citizens from predatory industrial practices.
As of the time of this report, officials from the mining company have not issued a formal statement regarding the specific allegations of property damage and health risks.
However, the Ogun State Ministry of Environment is expected to deploy a team of inspectors to the Lukosi area to assess the extent of the impact.
The residents have vowed to continue their advocacy and legal channels if their demands for a safer environment are not met, insisting that the preservation of their ancestral homes and their health remains a non-negotiable priority in the face of commercial mining interests.
