Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a suspected kidnap attempt along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, rescuing the victim unhurt after armed hoodlums fled on sighting police officers.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said operatives attached to the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team were on routine confidence-building patrol when they heard gunshots from the area.

According to him, the officers immediately moved to the scene, and their swift response forced the suspected kidnappers to abandon their victim and flee into a nearby bush.

“The operatives immediately responded after hearing gunshots. Their swift intervention forced the suspects to abandon the victim and flee,” Babaseyi said.

He disclosed that the victim was rescued unharmed and escorted, alongside his vehicle, to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary police procedures.

Babaseyi added that normalcy had since been restored in the area, while efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Commending the operatives, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, courage and vigilance, describing the operation as a reflection of the command’s improved operational capacity.

He said the successful rescue demonstrated the command’s commitment to responding swiftly to distress calls and tackling all forms of criminality across the state.

Ojajuni reassured residents that the police remain in control of the security situation in Ogun State, adding that the command would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and coordinated tactical operations to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The police commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information through the Gateway Shield platform, assuring that all actionable intelligence would receive prompt attention.
