Nigerian author and columnist Okey Ndibe has confirmed his release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) after he was detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Ndibe disclosed his release in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, expressing appreciation to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who reached out following reports of his detention.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the renowned writer revealed that he was held by DSS operatives for more than three hours at the airport before being released.
Despite the incident, Ndibe commended the conduct of the security operatives who handled the matter, describing them as professional and courteous throughout the period of his detention.
He wrote, “I am so grateful for the expressions of concern by many friends, acquaintances and others over my detention earlier today by the DSS at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
“The two agents who interacted with me were quite courteous throughout the three-plus hours of my detention. I’d like to confirm that I’ve been released.”
Ndibe also disclosed that he received numerous calls and messages from concerned individuals across different parts of the world after news of the incident emerged.
According to him, while he was unable to respond to all those who contacted him, he plans to return more calls in the coming days.

“In the coming days I’ll find time to return more calls. But I want all to know that I am fine and in excellent spirits. I treasure your messages and gestures of friendship,” he added.
The circumstances surrounding Ndibe’s detention were not immediately disclosed, while the DSS has yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
