Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has been ruled out of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States after sustaining a hamstring injury during training. Although the 29-year-old Cameroonian will still travel with the squad, he won’t feature in any matches as he begins rehabilitation ahead of the new season.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a club source told the BBC that Onana has “responded well to treatment” and faces no long-term issues, but United’s medical staff are taking a cautious approach.
With Onana sidelined, Turkish international Altay Bayındır, 27, is expected to start in goal during the U.S. tour. Bayındır had seen his future thrown into doubt after being overlooked for the Europa League final, but this development provides an opportunity to reclaim confidence.
The injury has raised fresh questions about the club’s depth in the goalkeeping department. Manager Ruben Amorim, who has publicly backed Onana, now faces pressure to reassess his transfer plans. Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton, 39, has signed a one-year extension but is not expected to be more than a backup.
Other available options include 21-year-old Radek Vitek, who impressed on loan in Austria, and youth players Hubert Graczyk, Elyh Harrison, and Dermot Mee — all of whom remain untested at senior level.
United begin their pre-season on July 19 against Leeds United in Stockholm before facing West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton in the Premier League Summer Series in the U.S. They wrap up with a home game against Fiorentina on August 9, ahead of their Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17.
Confirmed Teams for 2029 FIFA Club World Cup
