The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Ondo State Government, demanding the immediate release of detained student activists, including Blessing Akeju, allegedly imprisoned through the office of the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Kayode Ajulo.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement signed by its President, Olushola Oladoja, NANS accused Ajulo of attempting to silence student voices and called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene. The association warned that failure to meet its demands would lead to a nationwide mass protest tagged #OccupyOndoGovernmentHouse.
“This is not a threat, but a declaration of intent, backed by the collective will of Nigerian students,” the statement read. “We will not fold our arms while our comrades are persecuted for advocating better governance. An injury to one is an injury to all.”
NANS condemned what it described as oppressive actions by the Attorney General, expressing shock over the detention of Akeju and other young Nigerians at the Olokuta Correctional Facility. The body criticized Ajulo, noting that his past reputation as a progressive legal advocate made the incident more disturbing.
“Barrister Kayode Ajulo, who has long portrayed himself as a defender of rights and democracy, should not be found using state power to suppress civil liberties or violate the rights of young activists who are merely speaking truth to power,” the statement added.

NANS described Ajulo’s actions as hypocritical and disgraceful, stating that rather than upholding justice, he has weaponized his office to persecute dissenters. The association warned that such actions posed a grave threat to civil liberties and freedom of expression, not just in Ondo State but across Nigeria.
The students reaffirmed their commitment to defending the rights of their members, vowing not to relent until justice is served.
