A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of 228 Android phones, 156 assorted batteries, and 23 foreign SIM cards, none of which he could account for. The suspect remains under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries,” Afolabi stated.

In a separate development, the police commissioner reported the arrest of several suspected kidnappers who had been on the command’s wanted list for their involvement in abduction cases across the state.

The suspects, identified as Aminu, Abdullahi Abubakar, Yusuf Saidu, Nafiu Ibrahim, Mohammed Anas, Kabiru Mohammed, Yusuf Suleiman, and Ishaku Abdul—a recently released ex-convict—were apprehended following intelligence-led operations.

On February 13, 2025, police operatives arrested Aminu at Akure Garage in Ikare Akoko through surveillance and intelligence gathering. His arrest led to the capture of Abdullahi Abubakar. Further operations between February 14 and 15 resulted in the apprehension of Yusuf Saidu, Nafiu Ibrahim, Mohammed Anas, and Kabiru Mohammed.

In another incident in Ipele, Afolabi reported that a woman was abducted from her home by unidentified gunmen. However, swift police intervention, in collaboration with local youths, led to her rescue. An AK-49 rifle was recovered at the scene.

“Through intelligence-led policing, one of the suspects, Yusuf Suleiman, was arrested in connection with the abduction,” he added.

Additionally, the police apprehended Ishaku Abdul, who had recently been released from a correctional center but was suspected of engaging in criminal activities in his community.
