The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government to fulfill outstanding demands, including the payment of withheld salaries and the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement.

In a statement on Wednesday, ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodoke, accused the government of neglecting agreements dating back to 2009 and employing delay tactics.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that ASUU warned that if its demands, such as the conclusion of the Nimi Briggs Committee’s Draft Agreement and the release of unpaid salaries, are not met by October 7, 2024, members will embark on a fresh strike that could cripple academic activities in public universities across Nigeria.

The union also called for funding for university revitalization and the replacement of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) with the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).

ASUU further demanded the release of unpaid salaries for staff on sabbatical, part-time, and adjunct appointments, as well as the payment of outstanding third-party deductions, such as check-off dues and cooperative contributions.
