- PDP Factions Divided Over Jonathan’s 2027 Presidential Ambition
- Wike-backed faction denied Jonathan’s involvement with their political camp.
- Makinde-backed faction said Jonathan remains a registered PDP member
The two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party are reportedly divided over the possibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan obtaining the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
With uncertainty continuing to surround Jonathan’s political ambition and the deadline for purchasing nomination forms approaching, both camps within the PDP have refused to clearly confirm or dismiss the former president’s possible participation in the race.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking with Vanguard on Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP National Working Committee faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Mohammed
Haruna Jungudo, dismissed claims that Jonathan was engaging with their camp.
According to Jungudo, Jonathan had neither visited nor held political discussions with the faction, insisting that the former president had not purchased any nomination forms from their group.
“Goodluck has not purchased our form yet and he has not been romancing with us, so we are not expecting him to come,” Jungudo said.
“You saw them visiting Goodluck Jonathan. You have never seen Goodluck Jonathan pay a visit, or you’ve never seen us visiting Goodluck Jonathan.”
Jungudo also appeared to downplay the possibility of Jonathan contesting under their faction of the party.
“Goodluck Jonathan buy the presidential nomination form from where? You are not talking to Kabiru Turaki’s group. And you should know you are not talking to Kabiru Tanimu Turaki,” he added.
However, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Interim National Working Committee backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Ini Ememobong, gave a more open response regarding Jonathan’s possible ambition.
Ememobong declined to rule out the possibility of Jonathan contesting on the PDP platform, maintaining that the former president remains a registered member of the party and is free to pursue the presidential ticket if he chooses.
“Well, that is for him to determine. It is not for us. The choice of buying nomination form, when to buy, and where to buy from, is entirely his,” he said.

“What we can say is that his name is on our register and which is what we can answer to.”
Speculation over Jonathan’s possible return to presidential politics has intensified in recent weeks after the former president reportedly promised to consider calls from some Nigerian youths urging him to contest the 2027 election.
