The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party winning the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the opposition party is not currently in a position to mount a credible challenge.
Wike made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects within the FCT.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the former Rivers State governor also responded to criticisms from former Anambra PDP Chairman, Dan Ulasi, and other party chieftains who questioned his relationship with the presidency.
According to Wike, his political decisions are based on realism rather than sentiment, adding that many of his critics have failed to deliver electoral victories in their respective states.
He specifically pointed to the PDP’s poor performance in Anambra State, arguing that those attacking him lacked the moral standing to do so.
The FCT minister also alleged that some of the party members criticising him may eventually defect to the Labour Party.
Wike maintained that the PDP was not prepared for another presidential contest, stressing that the party must first resolve its internal crisis before thinking about returning to power at the national level.
According to him, the party cannot afford to “contest for contesting’s sake” while its internal structure remains weak and divided.
He further disclosed that some unnamed presidential aspirants within the PDP privately admitted to him that winning the last general election would have been difficult because of the party’s internal problems.
“The PDP’s path back to relevance lies not in presidential ambitions but in a total structural overhaul,” Wike said.
He insisted that the opposition party must rebuild its structure from the ward level to the local government and state levels before discussing presidential ambitions.
“Every election is local,” he added, warning that political success recorded in one state should not be assumed to apply across the country.

Wike’s latest comments come amid ongoing tensions within the PDP and growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
