EKO HOT BLOG reports that the suspension was announced on Wednesday in Abuja by PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, during a press conference. He explained that the union’s National Executive Council convened an emergency meeting where it resolved to call off the strike following progress made in negotiations.
According to Osifo, the decision was taken after a reconciliatory meeting facilitated by the federal government, where all parties reached an understanding on the process of reabsorbing the affected refinery workers.
However, the PENGASSAN president issued a strong warning that the union would not hesitate to resume industrial action if the management of Dangote Refinery fails to honour its commitments.

“The strike is hereby suspended to give room for the full implementation of the agreement reached. But let it be clear that we will not hesitate to resume the action without notice if any party defaults,” Osifo stated.
