Residents of Tony Ukah Street Cry Out Over Water Scarcity, Urge Wale Raji, Akinloye to Intervene

- Tony Ukah Street residents in Iraye, Epe, suffer severe water scarcity.
- They urge Rep. Wale Raji and Hon. Akinloye to provide a solar-powered water system.
- Concerns grow over hygiene and the risk of waterborne diseases.
Residents of Tony Ukah Street, located behind Alaro High School in Iraye, Epe, have raised the alarm over the severe water scarcity affecting their daily lives. They are calling on government officials, including Rep. Wale Raji, the lawmaker representing Epe Federal Constituency, and Hon. Monsuru Akinloye, the Chairman of Eredo LCDA, to urgently address the crisis and provide a lasting solution.
Ekohotblog reports that speaking with our correspondent, community members lamented that they have been enduring a serious lack of water for months. The only available source of water is from a private individual who uses a generator to pump water, but the soaring cost of fuel has made it impossible to sustain.

“Water is a basic necessity, yet we struggle to get it every day. We rely on just one person who pumps water, but with the current fuel price, he cannot continue. We are left stranded,” said Mrs Jumoke a resident of the area.
Residents further explained that even when there is electricity, low voltage prevents boreholes from functioning.
“Even when NEPA brings light, it is too low to power the pump. We sometimes go for days without a drop of water. It is frustrating, and we can’t continue living like this,” lamented Mum Ayo another resident lamented
To address the crisis, the residents are calling for a solar-powered water system that will serve Tony Ukah Street and neighboring areas. They believe a solar-powered system would provide a more sustainable and cost-effective water supply, eliminating dependencies on fuel and unstable electricity.
“A solar-powered water system will help solve this problem permanently. We are pleading with our leaders to listen to us and take action. We should not be struggling for water in 2025,” said Mr. Kehinde another resident.
The residents are appealing to Rep. Wale Raji, Hon. Monsuru Akinloye, and all relevant government agencies to prioritize their plight and implement a quick solution to end their suffering.
The ongoing water scarcity has raised serious concerns about hygiene, sanitation, and public health.

Residents fear that without immediate intervention, the situation could lead to the outbreak of waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid.
“Without water, how do we maintain cleanliness? People are forced to ration water, and this can cause serious health issues. We need urgent help before this turns into a disaster,” said Mrs.Temitope, a concerned resident.
