Rivers Crisis: Wike Schools Fubara, Tells Him What To Do

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized a letter written by the current governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to the state House of Assembly. Wike described the letter as “useless” and unnecessary.

Governor Fubara had written the letter on Tuesday, asking for a meeting with the Speaker of the Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the recent Supreme Court ruling on the political situation in Rivers State. However, Wike did not agree with the way Fubara handled the situation and made his opinion clear while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Wike, there was no need for the governor to send a formal letter. He believed that Fubara should have taken a more personal approach by calling Speaker Amaewhule and other members of the Assembly directly to arrange a meeting. Wike stressed that the lawmakers are independent and not under Fubara’s authority, so they should be treated with respect.
Wike’s comments reflect ongoing political tensions between him and his successor, Fubara. Despite the Supreme Court’s involvement, disagreements continue over how the state should be governed and how both leaders engage with the Assembly.
