The Ogun State Government has cleared shanties and temporary structures along the road setback at the Sango Tollgate, located on the border between Ogun State and Lagos State, as part of efforts to reduce recurring accidents in the area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the demolition exercise, carried out on Tuesday, was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Kafayat Lawal. According to her, the action followed repeated warnings and notices issued to traders occupying the roadside.
Lawal explained that the government had already provided an alternative trading location at Plaza Road in Sango, urging affected traders to relocate and comply with safety regulations.
She noted that street trading around the tollgate and under the bridge had become a major safety concern, often contributing to avoidable accidents, injuries, and loss of lives.
“The exercise will free up the tollgate and under-bridge areas where street trading has frequently led to tragic incidents,” she said, stressing that the government would no longer tolerate activities that put lives at risk.

Lawal also warned that anyone found engaging in street trading in the restricted zones would face legal consequences, adding that the government remains committed to enforcing environmental and safety laws.
She encouraged traders to make use of the newly provided market developed in collaboration with the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government and the Olota-in-Council, assuring that the facility offers a safer and more organised environment for their businesses.
