The Lagos State Government has disbursed ₦2.7 billion through its EKO Cares and EKO Listens social intervention programmes, benefiting over 10,000 vulnerable households across the state.

At the cheque presentation ceremony held at LTV, Ikeja—where ₦460 million was distributed to 1,000 new beneficiaries of the EKO Listens programme—Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, described the initiative as a reflection of empathy-driven governance.

“This is more than a ceremony; it’s a demonstration of compassion and collective progress,” he said. “Development isn’t measured only by infrastructure but by how deeply we care for one another.”
According to the governor, EKO Cares has assisted over 8,100 individuals, while EKO Listens has reached 8,690 residents. In 2024 alone, ₦1.1 billion was distributed to 2,477 people, with another ₦1.6 billion set to support 2,850 more before year-end.

Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr Afolabi Tajudeen, noted that beneficiaries were selected from 5,000 applicants across all local councils, with women accounting for 46 per cent.
He added that over 2,000 food palliatives had also been distributed to vulnerable groups.
