Governor Sanwo-Olu said the future belongs to women who are ready to lead with courage and influence decisions that impact society. He noted that the conference theme, “Claiming Our Future: Women in Leadership and Policy Transformation,” provided an apt backdrop for his message.
He emphasised that leadership is not merely about holding a title but about influence, accountability, and the readiness to make a lasting difference.
“Let us not shy away from leadership roles. Step forward, voice your opinions, and take responsibility for shaping the policies that determine the progress of our communities and our nation,” he said.
The Governor commended WISCAR for its consistent efforts in nurturing women leaders and highlighted the success of the newly launched Women in Law Mentoring Programme (WILMP), supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
He described it as a transformational pipeline equipping mentees with the skills and confidence to influence governance and drive reform.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also noted that women now make up 50 percent of Lagos State’s Permanent Secretaries, with women heading several Ministries, Agencies, and Departments, strengthening governance systems and promoting inclusive development.
Reaffirming the State’s commitment to women’s leadership, he stressed that Lagos would continue to create opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to governance and economic growth. “When women take responsibility, institutions become stronger,” he said.
The Governor congratulated WISCAR Chairperson and founder, Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, and her team for hosting another impactful conference.

He expressed confidence that the 2025 event would inspire renewed commitment to leadership responsibility and policy transformation.
A highlight of the conference was the recognition of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, who received a WISCAR award for her contributions to education and women’s advancement.
