Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has refuted claims that some senators are plotting to remove Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing the report as false, divisive, and aimed at creating tension within the National Assembly.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during Wednesday’s plenary, Bamidele said there had been no discussion, plan, or move to unseat Akpabio, insisting that the upper chamber remains united and focused on addressing key national issues.
He said the rumours were being circulated to distract lawmakers from their constitutional duties and to stir unnecessary controversy within the Senate.
“There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion about removing the Senate President from office,” Bamidele stated. “We are fully united and have zero tolerance for distractions because there are urgent national issues that require our collective attention. Reports like these are only meant to create confusion.”
His comments came after Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) made reference to earlier reports alleging failed attempts to impeach Akpabio. Kalu, in a separate interview with journalists on Tuesday, had confirmed that there were indeed attempts to remove the Senate President but said they were quickly stopped.

“There were attempts, but we didn’t allow that to happen. We are one big family, and it’s not going to happen,” Kalu said.
Bamidele, however, reaffirmed that the Senate remains cohesive and that the alleged impeachment move does not reflect the reality within the chamber.
