EKO HOT BLOG reports that The protest, which took place at the Iwo Road Roundabout, near the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway, drew large crowds of demonstrators chanting solidarity songs and waving placards bearing inscriptions such as “Don’t Kill Dangote Refinery,” “#StopSabotagingFuelInNigeria,” “#EndPENGASSAN,” “#EndDAPPMAN,” and “#DangoteRefineryIsANationalAsset.”
The protesters accused vested interests within the oil sector of attempting to sabotage the operations of the $20 billion refinery, describing it as Nigeria’s biggest industrial investment and a major step toward fuel self-sufficiency.
The National President of the National Association of Oduduwa Students, Olalere Adetunji, while addressing journalists, urged President Bola Tinubu and relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent the refinery from being undermined by external forces.
“We are appealing to the Federal Government to protect the Dangote Refinery from unnecessary interference and ensure that labour unions and marketers’ actions do not derail Nigeria’s journey to energy independence,” he said.
Security agencies, including the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), were stationed at strategic points to ensure the protest remained peaceful and orderly.
