Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, increasing the number of governors under the ruling party to 30.
Governor Kefas formally joined the APC on Saturday at a ceremony held in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital. The event followed the postponement of an earlier planned reception in honour of members of the armed forces and citizens reportedly killed during terrorist attacks in November 2025.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that at the ceremony, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the party’s flag to Governor Kefas and affirmed his position as the leader of the APC in Taraba State.
Yilwatda described the governor’s defection as timely and courageous, noting that it would place Taraba State in a better position to benefit from federal programmes and interventions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The APC is the party at the centre, and in my father’s house there are many mansions,” Yilwatda said.
“There is room for every Nigerian who is willing to come into the APC. In the APC, all states and all people are equal, and Taraba is as important as every other APC governed state.”
Also speaking at the event, the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, expressed the party’s excitement over Governor Kefas’ defection.
“On behalf of the National Working Committee, it is our joy to receive the governor of Taraba State into our great party,” Basiru said.
He added that the APC has expanded its national reach, describing it as the largest political party in Africa.
In his remarks, Governor Kefas said his decision to join the APC was driven by purpose and the desire to fast track development in Taraba State.
“Today, I stand before you not to make noise, but to make meaning; not to play politics, but to lead with focus,” he said.

Kefas maintained that his move was not about political survival but about strengthening his administration’s development agenda for the benefit of the people.
