President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared an end to the long-standing neglect of satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the commissioning of a 194-kilometre water supply network to serve residents of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and adjoining communities, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning ceremony in Kurudu, Abuja, the President said the project demonstrates his administration’s commitment to expanding critical infrastructure beyond the city centre under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu stated that his administration is determined to reverse a situation where essential amenities remained concentrated in elite districts while residents of suburban communities struggled to access basic services.
“We are here not just to cut a ribbon, but to breathe life into a fundamental human right that has eluded this bustling community for far too long. Today, we declare that the era of neglect for our satellite towns is officially over,” he said.
The President described the project as a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that his administration is focused on delivering tangible results rather than making promises.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, the project was initiated following Tinubu’s directive after commissioning the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, insisting that water infrastructure should reach satellite communities.

Tinubu disclosed that his administration promptly approved funding for the Karu Water Supply Project after it was presented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, because of its significance to public health and economic development.
He commended CGC Nigeria Limited for delivering the project on schedule.
The President said the project includes more than 194 kilometres of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks, bringing treated and potable water directly to homes in Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and neighbouring communities.
Tinubu also praised Wike for accelerating infrastructure development across the FCT, saying visible projects remain the true measure of leadership.
He recalled that residents of Karu and surrounding communities had depended on unsafe water sources and vendors for decades despite rapid population growth in the area.
The President urged residents to protect the facilities from vandalism and illegal connections, describing the infrastructure as a shared public asset funded with taxpayers’ resources.
Tinubu further disclosed that similar interventions are being implemented in Bwari and other Area Councils as part of efforts to promote urban renewal and improve living conditions across the FCT.
Wike thanked the President for supporting people-oriented projects, noting that the water scheme aligns with Tinubu’s directive to extend development to satellite communities.
Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, also commended the administration for its commitment to infrastructure development.
Providing an overview of the project, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Yunana Dauda, said the scheme utilised the existing reservoir in the area and connected over 1,000 distribution lines to homes and communities in the benefiting towns.
