Among the projects inaugurated was the Bola Tinubu Specialist Complex at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja. The newly completed two-storey facility is designed to provide integrated specialist and VIP healthcare services. It features consulting rooms, theatre suites, specialised departments for Ophthalmology and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) care, a modern laboratory, pharmacy, VIP wards, general wards and private clinics.
The President also commissioned a fleet of emergency response vehicles, including 145 tricycle ambulances, six boat ambulances and 79 emergency ambulances for federal tertiary hospitals. Additional digital equipment comprising laptops, printers and mobile phones was deployed to strengthen coordination under the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS).
According to the statement, the ambulance fleet will support the SAVEMAMA programme, which focuses on delivering emergency obstetric and newborn healthcare services to underserved rural, riverine and hard-to-reach communities.
In the North-West, three Polio Emergency Operations Centres were commissioned in Katsina, Kano and Sokoto states. The facilities, originally established in 2013 with support from the Gates Foundation and managed by eHealth Africa, have been renovated and upgraded to improve immunisation programmes, disease surveillance and outbreak response.
The President also inaugurated the newly constructed Gadon Kaya Primary Health Centre in Kano State, built under the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project.
Other projects commissioned include a new Laboratory Complex at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in Akwa Ibom State, a new Administrative Complex at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla in Enugu State, and a Pharmacy Quality Control Laboratory at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria, Kaduna State.

In the North-East, Tinubu commissioned a 50-bed Mental Health and Drug Rehabilitation Centre at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The facility is expected to provide specialised treatment for patients dealing with mental health challenges and substance abuse, particularly in a region heavily affected by conflict-related trauma.
The President also inaugurated the Lagos Immunisation Supply Chain Hub located at the Federal Medical Stores in Oshodi. Developed under the World Bank-supported IMPACT Project, the facility is designed to strengthen vaccine storage and distribution across the South-West and South-South regions.
Speaking during the virtual commissioning ceremony, President Tinubu described the projects as one of the most ambitious healthcare infrastructure renewal programmes undertaken in recent decades.
“We are determined to give Nigerians the kind of care that, for too long, only those who could travel abroad enjoyed,” the President said.
He added that the investments would strengthen emergency response systems and improve access to healthcare services across both urban and rural communities.
Tinubu also commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, NEMSAS, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, development partners, state governments and federal teaching hospitals for their contributions to the successful execution of the projects.
According to figures released by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, nearly 3,000 primary healthcare centres have been revitalised under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative. The ministry also disclosed that 27 Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care centres have been established, while more than 2,900 health facilities have been upgraded nationwide within the last two years.
