Preliminary findings indicate that the driver lost control of a Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), causing the vehicle to somersault several times before coming to a halt.
The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the immediate death of the driver, whose body was trapped inside the mangled vehicle.
LASTMA officials on traffic management duty in the area swiftly responded to the scene and collaborated with officers of the Mosafejo Police Division to recover the victim’s body while ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and preventing secondary accidents.
Following the recovery operation, officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the deceased to a public mortuary in accordance with established procedures.
The damaged Honda Pilot SUV was subsequently handed over to officers of the Mosafejo Police Division for further investigation.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to determine the immediate and remote causes of the fatal accident.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise greater caution on the roads.
He advised drivers to obey traffic regulations, avoid excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking, and remain vigilant, particularly during late-night and early-morning journeys.
Bakare-Oki stressed that road users must prioritise safety at all times, noting that no journey is important enough to justify actions that could endanger lives.
