The Nigeria Revenue Service, which replaced the former Federal Inland Revenue Service, was established following the passage of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. The reforms are part of the administration’s broader efforts to restructure and strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal system.
Beyond tax collection, the new agency now has an expanded mandate that includes coordinating non-tax revenue, improving service delivery and enhancing compliance across the system.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Chairman of NRS, Zacch Adedeji, described the newly commissioned headquarters as a major step toward modernising Nigeria’s revenue administration.
The facility, a three-tower complex in Abuja, is designed to accommodate over 3,000 staff and support the agency’s growing operations. Currently, the Service has more than 18,000 personnel across its network.
The event also featured goodwill messages from top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, and the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun.
In his remarks, Adedeji noted that the commissioning marks a key milestone in efforts to expand the tax base, improve efficiency and deliver better services to Nigerians.
