U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup: Nigeria Secures Narrow Victory Over Ireland, but Misses Out on Semi-Finals

Despite a slow start, Nigeria triumphed over Ireland by six runs in their second Super Six game at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia on Wednesday morning.
After losing key batter Victory Igbinedion in the first over and finding themselves at 18/3 within five overs, Christabel Chukwuonye (25) spearheaded the recovery, with support from Omosigho Eguakun (17) and late contributions from Peculiar Agboya and Lilian Ude.

This win secured Nigeria third place in Super Six Group 2, but unfortunately, they missed out on a semi-final spot.
The semi-finals will see India take on England and South Africa face Australia.
Kia McCartney was Ireland’s top bowler, finishing with 2/13 from four overs.
Ireland’s chase started poorly with an early wicket in the first over, but Freya Sargent and Rebecca Lowe steadied the innings, taking the score to 30-2 by the end of the powerplay.
Nigeria continued to apply pressure, taking regular wickets despite some late resistance from Millie Spence and Kia McCartney.

In the end, Nigeria bowled Ireland out for 88 to secure a narrow 6-run win. Lilian Ude was the standout bowler with figures of 3/11, while Peace Usen and Anointed Akhigbe each took two wickets.
