Vandals Attack TCN Towers in Benue, Foiled by Community Vigilance

- Vandals attacked TCN’s tower T195 in Benue but were thwarted by local vigilance.
- One suspect was caught and handed over to the police.
- TCN urges communities to protect critical infrastructure against vandalism.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported an attempted vandalism of its transmission tower T195 along the Ugwuaji–Makurdi 330 kV line in Benue State. The incident occurred on Saturday at Watuolo village, Utonkon, in Ado Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Thursday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, revealed that the attack occurred around 3 a.m. when suspicious activity was noticed around the tower.
Thanks to the vigilance of local community members, the vandalism was thwarted. One suspect was apprehended, while others managed to escape the scene. The apprehended individual was handed over to the police.
TCN commended the residents of Watuolo village for their quick response and teamwork in preventing the attack.
Mrs. Mbah expressed gratitude for their role in protecting vital infrastructure and urged other communities hosting critical transmission assets to adopt a similar approach.
“We appeal to communities to take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their areas,” she said. “As we continue to collaborate with security operatives and host communities, we urge residents to remain vigilant as they play a crucial role in the fight against vandalism.”
