EKO HOT BLOG reports that the group, during the inauguration of its local government structures across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, warned former President Goodluck Jonathan against re-entering the race, saying doing so would “end in embarrassment.”
This follows recent online reports suggesting that Jonathan may contest the 2027 poll under a yet-to-be-announced political party.
PNT Director-General, Olumide Obadele, said Jonathan should preserve his image as a statesman by staying out of the race. He added that opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and African Democratic Congress (ADC), were “on life support” and lacked the capacity to unseat Tinubu.
“The Constitution is clear, and Jonathan’s attempt will only end in embarrassment. No opposition party today has the structure or national appeal to challenge Tinubu. For me, 2027 is a done deal,” Obadele said.
Obadele also disclosed that the group was intensifying grassroots mobilisation, lamenting that only 28 percent of registered voters participated in the last general elections in Ondo State. He said the group’s focus was to engage communities and youth groups to build stronger support for Tinubu across Yoruba land.
Meanwhile, civil society organisations in Delta State have condemned the lawsuit filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi seeking to stop Jonathan from contesting. The Young Nigerian Rights Organisation, led by Victor Ojei, described the suit as “a politically motivated distraction” and urged the Federal High Court to dismiss it immediately.
