EKO HOT BLOG reports that a source within the DSS disclosed the development during an interview on ARISE News, stating that the passport was taken to ensure El Rufai honours an invitation from the anti graft agency. The source maintained that there was no attempt to arrest or detain the former governor.
El Rufai arrived in Abuja from Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday when security operatives reportedly confiscated his travel document at the airport.
His media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, however, gave a different account in a post on his 𝕏 page. He alleged that security agents attempted to arrest the former governor but he resisted and demanded a formal invitation before complying.
“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir elrufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal Invitation. They however snatched his passport from an aide.”

As of the time of filing this report, no security agency has issued an official statement confirming the incident. However, there are indications that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission may be seeking to question the African Democratic Congress chieftain in connection with an ongoing investigation.
