Quoting police sources, Makama said preliminary investigations suggested the victim had been ill with malaria before her death, with prescribed drugs recovered at the scene. He added that no signs of violence were found on her body.
“Earlier on Sept. 9, a distressing case of culpable homicide was reported in Gwagwalada after a 24-year-old woman, identified as Ebubechukwu Sunday Kelechi, died suddenly in her fiancé’s home.
Preliminary police findings indicated she had been ill from malaria before her death, with drugs recovered at the scene. No marks of violence were found on her body,” Makama wrote.
The deceased’s fiancé has been taken into custody while police continue investigations to determine the exact cause of death.

Ebubechukwu’s case adds to a rising number of incidents in which women have died in their partners’ homes in recent months. Police records link such cases to sexual encounters, domestic violence, or untreated illnesses.
In August, Eko Hot Blog reported that Ondo State Police Command arrested a 45-year-old man, Bankole Oginni, after his former lover was found dead in his residence, with some body parts allegedly removed.
Meanwhile, Makama noted that the FCT police command had intensified raids on criminal hideouts across Abuja.
At least 71 suspects were arrested in coordinated operations across Gwagwalada, Kubwa, Nyanya, Apo, Karmo, Maitama, Mabushi, Dawaki, Galadima, Asokoro, Karu, Jikwoyi, Mpape, Lokogoma, and Utako divisions.
Police sources said quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances were recovered. The suspects are undergoing screening, and those found culpable will be prosecuted.
When contacted on Wednesday, FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said she had not yet been briefed on the case.
