The Lagos State Police Command has stopped an unapproved Egungun festival planned by a group calling itself Oje Parapo of Oregun, after posters and social media flyers circulated warning residents and restricting movement in the area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Police authorities confirmed that twelve suspects connected to the circulation of the materials have already been arrested. The publications were said to undermine citizens’ fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, freedom of expression, and human dignity.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, stressed that the Command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness or activities capable of disturbing public peace, safety, or order. He therefore ordered the immediate suspension of the Egungun festival, which had been scheduled for 27th and 28th November 2025.
According to the police, the distribution of the restrictive notices had already created tension and anxiety among residents. The Command emphasized that no group has the authority to impose movement restrictions or take the law into its own hands.

The police further warned all individuals or groups planning gatherings or activities that could endanger public peace to desist. “No festival that risks destabilising the peace or heightening tension in the State will be permitted under any circumstances,” the statement read.
The Command also referenced a similar incident in Mafoluku, Oshodi, where officers from the Makinde Division arrested twelve persons on 23rd November 2025 for distributing materials intended to incite public disorder. Those suspects remain in custody and are undergoing investigation for prosecution.
CP Jimoh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding residents, warning that anyone attempting to compromise the peace of Lagos State will face the full weight of the law. He urged the public to go about their lawful activities without fear and to report any suspicious activity through the Command’s emergency lines.
