Residents and well-wishers from across Nigeria and beyond gathered in Bauchi State on Friday to pay their final respects to the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the revered cleric, who led the Tijjaniyya order in Nigeria, was laid to rest in his hometown following his death on Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
The burial drew a massive crowd, reflecting the scholar’s influence across West Africa. Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, several state governors, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, federal lawmakers, and top government officials were among the dignitaries in attendance. The Grand Imam of Nigeria, Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh, led the funeral prayers.
Prominent Islamic clerics noted that Sheikh Bauchi spent more than six decades dedicated to Islamic teaching, mediation, and mentoring leaders, earning deep respect within and outside Nigeria.
His followers described him as a beacon of scholarship and spirituality whose contributions shaped the religious landscape for generations.
President Bola Tinubu earlier expressed sadness over the passing of the respected spiritual leader. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Sheikh Bauchi as a steadfast promoter of peace, moral values, and religious knowledge.
He recalled the cleric’s personal support and guidance during the 2023 elections and urged Nigerians to honour his legacy by upholding the virtues he championed.
