The UK’s Metropolitan Police Service have placed 23 officers on restricted duties following allegations that some personnel assigned to guard Windsor Castle were found asleep or had abandoned their posts while on duty.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the officers are members of the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command, the unit responsible for the protection of the British royal family, including King Charles III.

According to the force, 21 officers have been placed on restricted duties, while two others have been barred from deployment to royal residences pending the outcome of an ongoing misconduct investigation.
The inquiry, being conducted by the force’s Directorate of Professional Standards, was launched last month after reports emerged alleging that some officers left security positions unattended and others fell asleep while carrying out protective duties.
In a statement, the police said the alleged conduct falls below the standards expected of officers entrusted with frontline security responsibilities, particularly those assigned to protect members of the royal family and key national sites.
Authorities noted that the investigation remains active and could extend to other royal residences across the United Kingdom.
Windsor Castle is one of the official residences of King Charles III and regularly hosts state ceremonies, diplomatic engagements and visits by world leaders. The castle also welcomed Donald Trump during an official visit last year.
No officer has been dismissed or formally found guilty of misconduct at this stage, with investigations continuing.
