EDITOR’S PICKS

EKO HOT BLOG reports that some verses explicitly call for the punishment of “disbelievers,” leading to widespread criticism. However, it is undeniable that the Quran contains over 50 stories that bear striking similarities to historical events recorded in the Bible.

While Christians may never defend the Quran, there are several references within the book that reinforce the power and significance of Jesus Christ. Here are six key historical facts in the Quran that Christians should know.

1. The Quran Mentions Jesus More Than Mohammed

Despite being the central figure of Islam, the Prophet Mohammed is mentioned by name only four times in the Quran (Ch. 3:144, Ch. 33:40, Ch. 47:2, Ch. 48:2). In contrast, Jesus (Isa) is mentioned 25 times, a fact that surprises many.

2. Mary Is the Only Woman Mentioned by Name

The Quran does not mention any other woman by name except for Mary (Mariam), the mother of Jesus. Her story is significant, taking up two entire chapters: Chapter 3 (The Family of Mariam) and Chapter 19 (Mary). These chapters emphasize her holiness, virginity, and divine selection.

3. Jesus Is Given Unique Titles in the Quran

The Quran refers to Jesus with several unique and exalted titles. He is called al-MaseeHu ‘Eesa (Jesus Christ), Kalimatullaah (The Word of God), and Ruh-Allah (The Holy Spirit). These names hold profound significance, affirming His divine role.

4. Jesus Performed Miracles in the Quran

The Quran acknowledges Jesus’ miracles, many of which align with those described in the Bible. Among these are:

  • Creating a living bird from clay
  • Healing a man born blind
  • Curing leprosy
  • Speaking as an infant
  • Raising the dead

These miracles highlight the extraordinary nature of Jesus’ ministry.

5. The Quran Acknowledges Jesus’ Ascension

The Quran records that Jesus was taken up to heaven and will return. This aligns with the Christian belief in the Second Coming. Interestingly, the Quran does not state that Mohammed is still alive or that he will return.

6. No Miraculous Feats Are Attributed to Mohammed

While Jesus is depicted as performing numerous miracles, Mohammed is not given any miraculous powers in the Quran. Unlike Jesus, he is not attributed with supernatural acts or divine authority beyond his role as a prophet.
