Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested two elderly men, aged 83 and 78, in separate operations in Abia State and Ekiti State, as part of a wider nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the arrests were disclosed in a statement by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

According to the agency, the 83-year-old suspect, Pa John Ofiel, was arrested on April 28 during a raid in Aba, where about 700 grams of skunk were recovered. He reportedly told operatives he was formerly a shoemaker before venturing into the drug trade.
In Ekiti, a 78-year-old suspect, Ogunjobi Samuel, was arrested at his residence in Ilupeju-Ekiti with 350 grams of skunk.
The operations extended across several states. In Oyo State, two women were arrested over 1.925 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis, while additional suspects were apprehended in Ibadan with over 3 kilograms of skunk and a vehicle.
In Osun State, a 65-year-old driver was intercepted with 7 kilograms of skunk and methamphetamine, leading to the arrest of the alleged owner of the drugs.
In Borno State, operatives recovered tens of thousands of Tramadol pills from multiple suspects, while further seizures were made in Kaduna and Jigawa states along major transit routes.
A major raid in Lagos State led to the recovery of 740 kilograms of skunk at Awolowo Market in Mushin, highlighting the scale of drug distribution networks within urban centres.
The agency also recorded arrests and seizures in Edo State, where a suspect was found with multiple illicit substances, including Loud, Colorado, Tramadol, and methamphetamine.
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA said its commands across the country have continued sensitisation efforts under its War Against Drug Abuse campaign, targeting schools, religious centres, workplaces, and communities.

Reacting to the operations, NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers for their efforts and urged them to sustain the momentum in tackling drug trafficking and raising public awareness.
