The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into deeper turmoil following a new leadership rift that saw a faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announce the suspension of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and several top officials of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Eko Hot Blog reports that while addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday, PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, speaking on behalf of the factional NWC, announced the National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, as the new Acting National Chairman.

Anyanwu said Damagum was suspended for one month over alleged incompetence, financial impropriety, and disobedience to court orders. “He is to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee to defend himself,” he stated.

He also announced the suspension of the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba; Deputy National Vice Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja; National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyenguikoro; National Youth Leader, Sulaiman Kadade; and Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo.
According to Anyanwu, the suspensions were necessary to restore order and discipline within the party’s leadership.
However, in a swift counteraction, the NWC loyal to Damagum announced the suspension of Anyanwu himself, alongside the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and two other officials, deepening the ongoing internal crisis ahead of the party’s planned convention.
